Amazing blog, dudechop! Found you via Chowhounds link.
I'm so looking forward to opening day.
Eat on.
Okay, this is the, I don't know, 500th time I have heard about the Red Hook Ball Field and its food, and I still don't understand where, exactly, it is.
Plus, everyone kinda glosses over the soccer part, in which I have as much interest as I do in the food.
What's up, Porkman Jones? Help a food-and-soccer lover out.
I hate to admit it, but I've never visited the food tents at Red Hook Ball Field.
Any advice for a newbie? Where to start, what to order, what not to miss?
Blather From Brooklyn
take the B77 bus from Smith + 9th Street F/G station towards Red Hook.
get off the bus on Clinton Street + Lorraine St.
walk in the opposite direction of the hulking bqe. on the other side of the city rec center are a bunch of ball fields. you will see the food stands.
eat and enjoy!

has a good link to a google map.
anulla-
You must get the Huarachas...both stands are in the corner. I like the one that's not next to the fruit cart since the other one has chicken (better for my figure)...get it with "todos" (everything). They are nearly impossible to find anywhere else in NYC.
They are sort of like giant tacos made with fresh tortillas...Huarache Quesadilla's have beans inside the dough.
tks for stopping by, folks...
and tks for the bus info, frisky.
here's a g-map link. you'll see the fields aren't too far from the F/G 9th St stop:
kristen- you are the first and only person ever to ask about the soccer fields, kudos on that. the whole scene actually started with a Guatemalan liga back in the 60s... they're still semi-Pro (many players are pros from other countries) for a brief history, check out our 'everything you wanted to know..." post
annulla, we went down some of our faves on that same post... i really love the ceviche, & it's a nice way to get things rolling. not too heavy. their ecuadorian tuna soup is also tops. i agree with michael, huaraches are great. both vendors are actually adjacent to fruit stands, tho i love the pork huarache from Ms. Hernandez (sans lettuce)... that said, i think the best advice is to go on a day where you're not in a rush, pick up a fruity agua fresca, cruise around, and see what grabs you.... then let us know what grabbed you....
it is not necessary to take the bus from the F/G stop at smith/9th, it's really close. when you get off the train, walk 3 short blocks (smith, court, & then clinton), then turn L on clinton & walk under the BQE on clinton. it's about 4 blocks from there, so just get yourself a little taste of the projects & b-ball courts and the awesome red hook public pool & you'll see the people and the tents with blue tarps. ahh, i can't wait! 4 days!
hey all, there have been a lot of inquiries so I went and compiled directions to the red hook soccer fields:

thanks for everyone's input...
